THE BEGINNING OF IT ALL...Jevlin Voyles

The purpose of this blog is to document my progress in learning to draw and the creation of art. I hope others will also take part. Others will be invited and they will be given the choice of using their real name of a pseudonym.

Below are two pictures I drew on January 15, 2016. The first is a GOBLIN drawn on black paper with Crayola color pencils. The second is WOMAN, drawn on black paper with colored pencils. Not sure what the brand name of the pencils were.

Above are two "closed eye" drawings. I saw a video on YouTube in which an artist blindfolded herself, then drew and colored a drawing. I did something similar. With my eyes closed I drew the basic outline of a face; eyes, nose, lips, head outline and neck. Then I opened my eyes and took the rough sketch and turned it into a picture. PERSON IN A RED shirt was done first on January 3, 2016. Then I did CIGARETTE MAN the same day. I used a sketch pencil and colored pencils on sketchbook paper. When I drew the eyes for CIGARETTE MAN I drew them way too big and so I changed the eyes to sunglasses and drew new eyes within the lenses of the glasses. The ears on CIGARETTE MAN are far from right, I know.

Above are three sketches which resulted in my doing lessons from a drawing book for kids. It's one of those books where it shows you how to first draw the shapes of the thing in circles, then add more shapes then add more detail until you're finished. The POLAR BEAR LESSON  and the HONEY BEE LESSON were done on January 14, 2016 while the DOLPHIN LESSON was done on January 15, 2016.
